GRMG presents An Evening with Helen MacDonald

GRMG presents An Evening with Helen MacDonald
Helen MacDonald is the author of “H is for Hawk”, the international bestseller which won the Costa “Book of the Year” Award and the Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction in 2014. Helen is a writer, broadcaster, poet, illustrator, Cambridge academic and falconer, and some of her diverse work explores our relationships with birds of prey.

“H is for Hawk”, as well as being a blow-by-blow account of how a falconer exerts her will over a Goshawk, that most enigmatic and irascible of birds, also gives a remarkably raw and intimate insight into how Helen coped with the death of her father. Her 2006 book “Falcon” bridges science and cultural history, exploring historical and present-day relationships between humans and falcons.

Helen is honorary president of Gloucestershire Raptor Monitoring Group, which aims to study and protect the county’s wild birds of prey. GRMG invites you to meet Helen and hear her talk about her books and other work, including her recent BBC film about Goshawks breeding in the Forest of Dean, in which she was supported by volunteers from GRMG.
