From the USA there will be Aaron Copland’s foot-tapping exuberance Rodeo- Four Dance Episodes and the sheer excitement and magic of Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. Then from this side of the pond will be Elgar – Pomp and Circumstance March No.4 as befits any Last Night but also the exquisitely beautiful song cycle Sea Pictures for which the CSO will be joined by the young British contralto Kate Symonds-Joy, a performer becoming justly lauded for her individually creative approach to the music that she sings.
And of course the concert ends with Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Parry’s Jerusalem. Bring your bows, your stetsons, your nautical caps and come and sing your heart out with the CSO.
