| Formed in 1989, by a group of five musicians, Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin McGinley, Brian McDonagh and Michael Holmes who originally came together to record an album of local music. Inspired by the project (the album was released as The Boys of Sligo), they decided to turn the weekly informal pub sessions into a working band under the name Dervish.

The Folk Festival began with the Opening Concert on the Friday. As the headliners, Dervish was joined on the main stage in the Main Hall of the Town Hall by the Melrose Quartet (two great duos - Nacy Kerr & James Fagan and Richard & Jess Arrowsmith) and The QP - a six-headed folk/rock/funk/hip-hop concert and ceilidh monster!
