Symphony No.5 in E flat, Op.82
The mini-series of cello concertos continues with one of the most popular and delightful, composed by Dvořák and premiered in london. Tonight it will be played by French musician gautier Capuçon, widely recognised as one of the foremost cellists of his generation.
Weber’s opera Oberon was also premiered in London, and its Overture is a popular concert piece portraying the magical aspect of Weber’s fairy world.
The brilliance and optimism of Sibelius’ magnificent Fifth Symphony, with its imposing finale and heroic proportions, is performed by the elite BSO and its charismatic principal conductor Kirill Karabits.
“His sense of shape was infallible. There was an ineluctable force to the music whether at full charge or in the softest pianissimos where the Bournemouth players revealed a finely-honed blend of control and sensibility.” - The Telegraph
